Where there are kids, there are germs. All the parents out there know what I’m talking about! In the fall and winter, someone is almost always sick in our house. The kids bring home so many germs from school and we end up passing around all different types of sicknesses and ailments. I do my best to prevent sickness by making sure the kids are washing their hands and not having any play dates with children that are recovering from an illness. But no matter how hard I try, someone is bound to catch something and bring it home to infect us all!

Having a fully stocked medicine box in our kitchen has come in handy so many times the past few years. You never know when someone is going to come down with something, and having different medicines and remedies readily available is great for when a bug hits our house. Because there’s nothing worse than having to take a sick child to the grocery store. Except for taking two sick children to the grocery store when you’re also not feeling well. Being prepared is key! Here’s how I prepare our medicine box.

6 Ideas for Outdoor Play that Won't Break the Bank | sunshineandholly.com | #affiliate | outdoor toys games activities

It’s no surprise that I love to be outside, in the sunshine, with my kids. We love playing outside! There’s something about the fresh air, the green grass, and the natural light that makes my kids stop whining, fighting, crying, and complaining, and start playing nicely together. I know that any time my kids really start misbehaving, it’s probably because they need some attention and some playtime outside.

I’m all about letting kids run free and use their imaginations while they’re outside. My kids will find sticks, stones, acorns, leaves, mud, sand, (I could go on and on) to play with. But sometimes, having a few extra toys or activities for your kids while they’re outside can be helpful. Check out these 6 ideas for outdoor play that won’t break the bank.

5 Questions My 4-Year-Old Has Asked Before 7am

By on October 13, 2017

My son is the most inquisitive child I’ve ever met. Even when he was a baby, he was trying to take toys apart to figure out how they work. He wants to know everything about everything. And when he has a question, it’s a burning question. He’s gotta know the answer right away.

When he was two, he’d pitch humongous tantrums and scream and yell when I didn’t know the answers to his questions. Nothing like making your kid furious because you aren’t sure what’s  inside that huge truck you just drove by.

“Uh…socks! It’s a sock truck! It holds boxes and boxes of socks! Now please stop screaming at me!”

He also had no problem telling me when I was wrong when he didn’t get the answer he wanted.

“No mama. The sky isn’t blue. It’s yellow.”

Ok buddy. Whatever you say!

Easy DIY Girls Weekend Gift

By on September 27, 2017

A few weekends ago I took off for a girls weekend with a few of my mom-friends. There’s nothing like a weekend away from your family where you can spend all your time…complaining about your family, right? Ha! Seriously though, when we weren’t talking about our kids or our husbands, we were sipping on wine and cocktails, playing board games and card games, snacking on junk food, and laughing the hours away! It was the best. A much-needed break for all of us tired, worn out mamas.

3 Tips for Your Kid’s First Haircut

By on September 20, 2017

Until Saturday, Maddie had never had a haircut. Well, except for that time she cut off a chunk of her hair when she was using kid scissors one afternoon. (Note to self – do not leave kids alone with scissors, even for a second!) But I knew her hair needed a good trim. It’s a lot like mine and starts to tangle easily when it needs a cut.

Maddie is almost 3, so she’s probably older than most kids are when they get their first haircut.  Graham got his haircut when he was one. I was just so hesitant to cut Maddie’s because I kept thinking about how those tiny curls at the bottom were her sweet little baby hairs that she’s had since she was born. Gah! Take me back please. Just for a while so I can snuggle them both.

Anyway, she did great and her hair looks super cute. If you’re ready to get your kiddo’s hair trimmed for the first time, keep reading. I’ve got 3 tips for your kid’s first haircut below.
