Beach Recap and Traveling During the Pandemic

By on May 20, 2020

We just got back from a much-needed escape to the beach!

We had such a great time soaking up the sun and making memories. I was anxious about traveling during the pandemic and prepared A LOT before we left to make sure we could minimize any exposure to germs. I thought I would share the steps I took and the different things I brought along and did to keep us safe. (Disclaimer – I’m not a doctor or a CDC scientist, and I don’t work for the WHO. I’m just a mom!)

We received complimentary accommodations in Myrtle Beach from Condo-World in exchange for an honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions are my own!

Where to Eat Play and Stay at Myrtle Beach

Last weekend we took a quick trip to Myrtle Beach. The weather in Atlanta was rainy and dreary, and I was so happy to be escaping to the sunny beach for a few days! We’ve never taken the kids to Myrtle Beach, so I had no idea where to begin to look for somewhere to stay. Luckily, Condo-World stepped in and helped us to find a great place!

Where to Stay:

Condo-World offers the area’s largest selection of oceanfront Myrtle Beach condo rentals. (Because I always say that if you’re going to the beach, you might as well stay ON the beach!) Condo-World has condos for all budgets and tastes and you can book online or over the phone with ease. (They also have vacation rentals in Gatlinburg, Panama City Beach, Destin, South Walton, Pigeon Forge, Orlando, and Hilton Head!) We stayed at the Bay View Resort, which was close to all of the local attractions and restaurants.

Bay View Resort has beautiful oceanfront suites and 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedroom condos. I mean – just look at this view!!! You can’t beat that!

The Best Myrtle Beach Attraction for Families – The Pirates Voyage Dinner Show

We just got back from a super fun weekend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Josh and I had both been to Myrtle years ago, but this was our first time taking the kids. I did a lot of Pinterest research before we left to see what family-friendly attractions were offered near our condo, and the Pirates Voyage Dinner Show kept popping up over and over. The reviews made it seem like a blast and we were so excited to check it out!

(The show is also a Dolly Parton Production, so I knew it would be excellent!)

Holiday Hacks for Busy Moms

By on December 20, 2019

Isn’t it great how we moms can just sit back this time of year and let Santa take care of everything? Oh wait… 😑🙄

Christmas may be full of holiday magic and cheer, but it’s also one of the most stressful times of the year for moms. The mental burden of your family’s to-do list is heavy, and we’re all feeling that extra weight on our shoulders. Presents to buy and wrap, holiday meals to plan, groceries to purchase, food to cook, holiday outfits to coordinate, decorations to put out – it all adds up! Not to mention all of the other chores we normally do like dishes and laundry. We also have to make sure our kids have a magical Christmas – Santa pictures, gingerbread houses, elf on the shelf, stocking stuffers, an advent calendar, Christmas cookies, reindeer food – we seriously need our own fleet of elves to help with everything!

Luckily I have a few holiday hacks that can help save your sanity. I’m not saying I’m perfect (I’ll be right there with you at Target on Christmas Eve buying a last-minute gift) but I think these tips will help you save some time and energy!

Practical Tips for Handling Your Aggressive Child in Public

Practical Tips for Handling Your Aggressive Child in Public | sunshineandholly.com | strong willed toddler

My son was a difficult toddler. He was super strong-willed, and very aggressive and physical when he didn’t get his way. He really gave me a crash course in motherhood! When he was little, I felt like I was doing everything wrong. I didn’t think any of the discipline techniques I was using were working for him. (But now he seems to be a well-adjusted 7-year-old, so I must have not screwed up too much! Lol! Seriously though, I’m SO proud of him these days.)

When he was going through that stage, I did so much research on discipline, behavior, and how to handle strong-willed, aggressive kids. I read books, talked to other moms, got advice from our pediatrician, and scoured Pinterest for tips. But there were a few things I picked up along the way that really helped me as far as how I handled my son’s aggression in public. Because it’s one thing to deal with an aggressive child all day at home, but it’s a whole different story when you’re out in public under other people’s judging eyes! It took me a loooong time to be able to ignore the dirty looks and the rude comments about my child’s behavior. The people with the strongest opinions about how I should have been handling him really thought they knew what was best. But I was his mama. I was with him all day. And I choose to follow my mother’s intuition and instinct. I eventually figured out what worked and what didn’t.
