Easy DIY Advent Calendar for Christmas

Last month I was taking my monthly stroll around Hobby Lobby when I saw this cool easy DIY advent calendar box listed at half off. I thought to myself, “That craft looks pretty easy! I could totally do that!” So I tossed it in my cart along with some red letter stickers and some Christmas paper that was also half off – score!

Fast forward to a couple of days ago when I found the Hobby Lobby bag in the dining room with the supplies still in it, unopened. Whoops! Totally forgot about this! (And that’s when you know you go shopping too much – when you forget that you bought stuff.) 😂 Anyway, I got to work and managed to almost finish the project in one sitting. Until I realized I didn’t have enough red number stickers to finish… (This is why I’m not good at crafting!)

Here’s how I made it:

First, I traced 25 box shapes on different patterns of the Christmas paper. (I traced on the back of the paper – that’s why it’s white in the picture.)

Next, I cut out small squares and stuck the numbers on the white side. (At least until I ran out of numbers…)

Then I glued everything on with a glue stick!

We’ve been watching my in-law’s dog this week, so I had some cute company while I worked.

Almost done. Just needed a few more numbers!

After one more trip to Hobby Lobby and a little problem solving when I realized I STILL didn’t have enough number 2s, I finally finished! I think it turned out pretty cute and I know my kids will love it. (Even if we are a few days late starting the countdown.) I filled each box with candy and small prizes from the Dollar Store. Next year I’d love to fill each box with a good deed that the kids can complete – like taking a snack to the garbage men or making cookies for our neighbors.

If you look really close, you can see where I had to DIY a few more number 2s together.🤣 #problemsolving
