5 Ways to Prepare Your Backyard for Summer Fun

Summer break is almost here! There’s only one week of school left and believe it or not, I’m pumped! I know it won’t take me long to start counting down the days until school starts back. But for now, I’m looking forward to lazy mornings, lots of pool time, a couple of beach vacations, and spending more time with my kiddos.

(This post was sponsored by MissQuito Mosquito Control Company, but all thoughts and opinions are my own!)

To prepare for the long summer days ahead, I knew we needed to go ahead and get our backyard ready for fun. For years, our backyard has been an escape for us. When the minutes seem like hours and I’m exhausted and drained from entertaining my two wild things all day long, we head outside for a change of scenery and some sunshine. Kids need to be outside, and honestly, so do grownups! Going outside can do wonders for everyone’s mood when we’re grumpy and bored. And with summer break just around the corner, we need to make sure the backyard is ready! Here are some things we did to prepare:

What We’re Doing to Get Ready for Virtual Learning

Here we go again! Another semester of virtual learning. We’ve got this!

I’m hoping it will go much smoother this time since everyone has had more time to prepare. But I won’t lie – the schedule the school has proposed is very overwhelming! If I wasn’t worried about my children losing their spot at our charter school, I would probably just pull them and homeschool until they can go back. I feel like virtual learning is homeschooling without all the benefits of homeschooling (like controlling the content and schedule). But it’s fine. It’s all fine. We’re going to make it work!

Here’s a list of what we’re doing to get ready for virtual learning:

A Complete Checklist of Everything You Should be Disinfecting

A Complete Checklist of Everything You Should be Disinfecting

There were many carefree years of my life when I wasn’t afraid of germs and rarely got sick. And then I had children! These days, I’m totally a hand sanitizing, Clorox wipes wielding, Lysol spraying, germaphobe. Especially during cold and flu season…and even more so now during the coronavirus outbreak! I made a huge list of everything I need to sanitize a few months ago when we had a big trip coming up. I’ve relied on this list to keep my family well and wanted to share it with you. Print it out for your home!

Our Favorite Family Board Games

It may officially be fall, but here in Georgia, the temperature is still more like the surface of the sun! We’re talking 90+ degree heat. And the pool is officially closed for the season, so we’ve been spending more and more time inside just trying to stay cool. Luckily, my kids are old enough to play together and entertain each other long enough for me to get a few things done each day. When they were little, I regretted having my kids two years apart. But now it’s amazing! I love how well they play together. They still fight (like all siblings do) but I will say the amount of time they spend playing versus fighting is way higher.

When they finally get sick of playing on their own and want me to join in, I always reach for a board game, card game, or a puzzle. I find these activities easier than trying to play pretend. (I can only think of so many things for Barbie to say to My Little Pony…) We’ve started to build up a collection of board games that we all love to play.

Here are a few of our favorite family board games:

How to Earn Money for Your School All Summer Long with the New Digital Box Top Program and Double Box Tops at Walmart

By on July 15, 2019

This post was sponsored by General Mills, but all thoughts and opinions are my own!

It’s summer and you know what that means – my kids will be asking for a snack approximately 500 times a day! We play hard all summer long and my kids can really work up an appetite. Just yesterday, for example, Maddie rode the waves at the beach on a boogie board for almost 2 hours! Girlfriend loves the sand and the surf! And something about that summer sun makes my kids so hungry.

Luckily, I stocked up on lots of great General Mills products from Walmart so I’ll be ready. I like to keep tons of snacks on hand for all of our summer adventures. Granola bars in the pool bag, fruit snacks for the beach, and individually portioned bags of cereal are all quick and easy, and mess-free!
