It may officially be fall, but here in Georgia, the temperature is still more like the surface of the sun! We’re talking 90+ degree heat. And the pool is officially closed for the season, so we’ve been spending more and more time inside just trying to stay cool. Luckily, my kids are old enough to play together and entertain each other long enough for me to get a few things done each day. When they were little, I regretted having my kids two years apart. But now it’s amazing! I love how well they play together. They still fight (like all siblings do) but I will say the amount of time they spend playing versus fighting is way higher.

When they finally get sick of playing on their own and want me to join in, I always reach for a board game, card game, or a puzzle. I find these activities easier than trying to play pretend. (I can only think of so many things for Barbie to say to My Little Pony…) We’ve started to build up a collection of board games that we all love to play.

Here are a few of our favorite family board games:

CandyLand is such a classic. The bright colors, the fun candy graphics, and the ease of the gameplay make it the perfect game for young kids and kids-at-heart!

Hoot Owl Hoot is such a great game for little ones because it’s a collaborative game. You don’t have to worry about your kiddo getting upset when they lose because everyone is trying to get the owls back to the nest together.

My kids love the cute cherry game pieces in Hi Ho Cherry-O and I love that they’re practicing their math skills while we play!

Feed the Woozle was one of our first games and it’s still a favorite. My kids love to laugh at the silly food pieces like spider egg pudding, bathwater soda, and sand pizza. This is also a great game for active children because you spin to see what way you’ll move to feed the Woozle. (Like walking backward, bunny hop, and hula dancing).

My son loves Connect 4 and he’s really starting to get strategic with his moves.

Guess Who was one of my favorites growing up and we still love to play!

My oldest is finally old enough to play Monopoly Junior. Luckily the junior version of the game doesn’t last for hours like the original!

We also love Sorry, although every now and then my kids will get upset when we bump them off. It’s definitely a game for ages 6 and up.
