Exploring the Imaginary Worlds Exhibit at the Atlanta Botanical Garden

A couple of weeks ago, we received a brochure in the mail advertising the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s new “living plant sculptures” exhibit – Imaginary Worlds. I knew the kids would love seeing the larger-than-life storybook characters and animals made out of plants, so we planned a trip to check it out. Graham was especially excited to see the exhibit and grabbed a map when we walked in so he could be our tour guide.

Graham was actually a little scared of the woolly mammoth. I thought he was cute!

I was jealous that Rip Van Winkle was able to take a nap.

Review of Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Studios Orlando

Review of Loews Sapphire Falls Resort at Universal Studios Orlando | sunshineandholly.com

Back in February, Josh and I took a kid-free weekend trip to Universal Studios in Orlando. We decided to stay at one of Universal’s on-property resorts, Loews Sapphire Falls. We were flying down and wouldn’t have a car, and we wanted to take advantage of Sapphire Falls complimentary transportation to the parks. The Sapphire Falls Resort is a moderately-priced resort that looked beautiful from the pictures on the website. We were really impressed with the hotel and would definitely stay there again!

We didn’t bring the good camera, so these are all pics from my phone. Lesson learned. Next time I’m bringing the Cannon!

The Loews Sapphire Falls Resort is Caribbean themed, and the decor and amenities are great!  Our room was calm and inviting and there were lots of Caribbean details. Check out this video I took when we checked in:

Recap of Our Kid-Free Trip to Helen

By on May 10, 2018

Last weekend, the hubs and I were able to sneak away for a quick overnight trip to Helen, GA. My in-laws kept the kiddos and we enjoyed having some kid-free time to explore and relax! I’ve really been needing a break lately from the monotony of motherhood – the never-ending clean, drive, play, wipe, cook, argue, repeat!

Helen is a cute, quaint little German-themed town in North Georgia. It was a bigger tourist destination back in the 80’s, but these days it’s pretty quiet. Although it still can get crowded during the weekend! We love Helen because it’s a quick drive from Atlanta, and it has some beautiful scenic places to explore along the river, along with a few great places to hike.

After dumping…er…dropping the kids off with my in-laws, we headed up to Helen and checked in at the hotel. We’ve stayed at a few places around town, but this time we tried out the Hampton Inn. It was clean and newly renovated, and we had a beautiful view of the river from our balcony!

Another thing I love about Helen is that it’s small enough that you can pretty much walk everywhere. After checking in the hotel, we strolled through town to one of our favorite places to eat, The Troll Tavern. It’s the perfect place for a cold drink and some tasty German food. We love eating here during the summer. If you sit outside, you can watch people tubing down the river. The perfect spot for people watching!

Tips for Taking Kids to the Atlanta Botanical Garden | sunshineandholly.com | family fun | travel | spring activities

One of my favorite places to visit here in Atlanta is the Atlanta Botanical Garden. We just bought an annual membership, and I’m thrilled we can visit as many times as we want throughout the year! But the best time has to be in the spring when all of the flowers are blooming. My kids and I love wandering around and checking out all of the beautiful, fragrant flowers. We always stop by the children’s garden to check out what’s growing and then end our trip spending some time in the active play area.

Are you planning a trip to the Atlanta Botanical Garden? Check out my tips below!

Tips for Taking Kids to the Atlanta Botanical Garden

Check the Calendar

The Botanical Garden is typically closed on Mondays, so make sure to be aware of that before you plan your trip. Check the calendar before you go to see what events or kid’s programs are going on the day of your visit.

Plan Your Itinerary

The Atlanta Botanical Garden website has some awesome downloadable itineraries you can print out and bring with you. Check out the itinerary titled “visit with kids” to get some ideas of what to do during your time at the garden.

Pack a Lunch

There are 2 locations at the Botanical Garden to grab a quick bite to eat, as well as a full-service sit-down restaurant called Longleaf.  But when you’re bringing kids to the garden, I think it’s best to just bring a lunch. That way, you’ll have it with you and ready when your kids decide they’re hungry. Just find a shaded spot to sit and have a picnic!

Bring a Swimsuit for the Kids

The Botanical Garden has a great splash pad during the warmer months. Make sure to throw a swimsuit and towel in your bag, as well as some sunscreen so your kiddos can splash and play!

Be Prepared for Pollen

If you live here in Georgia, you’ll know to expect a good month or so of extreme pollen each spring. Everything will be covered in yellow – our cars, the mailbox, the doorknobs – it’s all sporting a fresh coat of bright yellow pollen! We hate having our outdoor plans cut short by sneezing, runny noses, and itchy eyes. Luckily, I’ve been purchasing Flonase and Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes from Kroger for years and use them both to keep allergies at bay!

Once-daily Flonase nasal spray products are proven to offer 24-hour relief from both nose and eye-related allergy symptoms. So it’s the perfect product to use before a trip to the Atlanta Botanical Garden. Flonase products are both non-addictive and non-drowsy, so you’ll still have plenty of energy to chase your kids around!

Consider bringing along some Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes, too. They’re perfect for cleaning up surfaces after your visit and will wipe away 99.9% of the most common allergens*. I love to keep some in my car to wipe down the stroller, my phone, my bag, my sunglasses, and anything else that might be covered in pollen after our day of family fun.  Click here to learn more about allergy solutions for spring and to take advantage of some great savings. Don’t let seasonal allergies ruin your outdoor family adventures!
