Weekend Recap Helen Georgia

Weekend Recap Helen Georgia | sunshineandholly.com

We had a great weekend in North Georgia! My parents have a timeshare in Helen and we usually stay there a few days each year. Helen is a small German-themed town with lots of character. I’ve been visiting almost every year since I was little. There isn’t a ton to do, but we enjoy spending time together and hitting up a few of our favorite spots!

Weekend Recap – Helen Georgia

We always stop at Jaemor Farms on the way up to the timeshare.

Fun Things to Do on a Disney Cruise | Disney Cruise Recap

By on September 12, 2019

I was trying to think of a good way to share the rest of the photos from our Disney Cruise back in April, and I realized I could just do one long “photo-dump” blog post with all the pictures and title it “Fun Things to Do on a Disney Cruise.” Because literally, EVERYTHING on a Disney Cruise is super fun! From the shows to the food, to the pools, to the games – even just walking around the ship and exploring is SO much FUN! Really the only thing that wasn’t fun was the fact that I got tonsilitis on the second day and was sick with a fever and sore throat the rest of the trip. (SO not fair!) But despite my 101-degree fever, we still had a blast!

Here’s a list of all the fun things we loved while on our cruise.

Fun Things to Do on a Disney Cruise:

There are a few fun things to do even before you board the ship. We explored the terminal at Port Canaveral while we were waiting and found a few Disney surprises. Like this neat model ship! There’s even a game you can play with an app on your phone where you find a couple of Disney characters on board the tiny ship. There’s also an opportunity to take a picture with a Disney character dressed up in their nautical outfit!

Super Quick and Easy Make-Ahead Breakfast Parfaits

By on September 10, 2019
Super Quick and Easy Make-Ahead Breakfast Parfaits | sunshineandholly.com | strawberry yogurt | overnight | mason jar breakfast

Now that both kids are back in school, I’ve been brainstorming all the quick and easy make-ahead breakfast options. I love having something already prepped that I can serve in the morning when we’re rushing around. (Still on the hunt for a tasty overnight oats recipe that my kids will actually eat. They’ve never really liked oatmeal…) But they do love yogurt! Graham especially loves the fruit and yogurt parfaits from McDonalds and Chick-Fil-A, so I tried whipping up something similar at home. It was a big hit! Now my kids are obsessed with these super quick and easy make-ahead breakfast parfaits.

You can use any type of fruit your kids like for these parfaits, as long as it lasts in the fridge after it’s been cut. I used strawberries this time. You’ll also need some yogurt, sugar, granola, and small containers – like Ball mason jars!

Start by cutting the fruit into small pieces, and then sprinkle on a couple of teaspoons of sugar and stir. Grab a jar and layer in the yogurt and fruit. Pop on a top and store in the fridge until the next morning. For breakfast, your kids can sprinkle on some granola and dig in! You can also add dried fruit to the parfaits along with with the granola – raisins, apricots, or shredded coconut all sound yummy. We may also try drizzling some maple syrup on top. Or, for a really yummy treat, I may top a few with some chocolate chips or sprinkles. My kids love variety, so I know we’ll be switching things up at our house!

So yummy! PS – I have so many mason jars, but can never seem to find a full set of the same size when I need them!

Life Update | Summer Recap

Life Update | Summer Recap | sunshineandholly.com

Remember when I used to blog consistently? 😂 I didn’t mean to take the summer off from blogging, but I won’t lie and say I was upset about the break. It was some much-needed time off! I was already feeling uninspired and was in a creative rut near the end of the school year. And since our summer was so busy, I’m not going to let myself feel guilty about taking a break!

We actually had a really nice summer. The kids played well together, we spent a ton of time at the pool, I was able to prioritize working out and self-care, and I managed to NOT get sick on our beach vacation. (I tend to get sick every time we travel. More on that later…)

Here are some things we did this summer:
