Oh sweet children.

Dear, sweet children.

You’re both the loves of my life, the sunshine in my day, my whole world is centered around you. Wiping your butts, cleaning up your throw up when you’re sick, losing sleep when you’ve had a bad dream, holding your hand and cheering you up when you fall, worrying about every aspect of your life from the day I saw the two pink lines on the pregnancy test.

I love you.

But every morning, I CAN’T STAND YOU!!!!

Each morning is a battle of wills. A battle of who’s the strongest. A battle of who can hold out longer, who can whine the loudest, who can be the most disrespectful and disobedient.

And you’re driving me crazy.

“Mama, why do you get so angry in the morning?”

REALLY?!?! You can’t tell why mama is angry?!

“Mama – remember what Daniel Tiger says:
(Singing) If you feel so mad, that you wanna roar, take a deep breath and count to 4.”

F*** Daniel Tiger! He’s never had to deal with children who are as defiant and lazy and mean and rude as you two are in the morning!

Here are 5 reasons why mama is acting like a crazy lunatic this morning:

Easy Kid’s Valentine’s Day Thumbprint Craft

Easy Kid's Valentine's Day Thumbprint Craft | sunshineandholly.com

You know me – this #lazymom is always looking for quick and simple crafts to do with the kiddos. And this easy kid’s Valentine’s Day thumbprint craft was perfect to kill some time one cold and rainy afternoon. The kids loved it, it was easy to make (and clean up), and the finished product is cute enough to use as decor around the house! The most difficult part of the whole craft was getting Maddie to pose for a picture with the finished product. Girlfriend hates having her picture taken these days…

Such a cheese-ball smile!

All you’ll need is a white canvas or some cardstock, scissors, tape (double-sided would probably work better), paint, and some extra paper to use for the hearts.

When Maddie Cut her Foot and Why We Should Always Offer to Help

By on January 4, 2018

I’ve had this post in my drafts for months. I’ve never hit publish on it because it’s super negative. And while Maddie and her foot are fine, this story doesn’t have a happy ending. I still get riled up when I think about that day. It still hurts my heart that I had to go through all of this without one single person offering to help…

But I’m going to publish it now and hope that by sharing this story, it’ll make us all think twice when we see another mom in public, struggling. We need to help each other. Because moms get it – we can tell when another mom has had it. When she’s in over her head. When she needs help. What stops us from offering a hand? What stops us from offering to help? The worst that can happen is that she’ll say no…

We were at the pool one day this summer, trying to beat the heat and pass some time since those long summer days seem to go on forever. It wasn’t too crowded that day, just about 4-5 other moms or grandmothers that I didn’t know with their kids or grandchildren.

5 Ways to Make a Disney World Trip More Romantic

5 Ways to Make a Disney World Trip More Romantic | sunshineandholly.com | honeymoon | anniversary | romance

Back in 2007, Josh and I took an 8-day trip to Disney World for our honeymoon. It was such a fun and magical vacation! We rode tons of rides, ate amazing food, met lots of the characters, relaxed at the hotel pool, and drank our way around the World Showcase.

Look at those babies! We were 23 when we got married. Youngins!

Sometimes people look at me like I’m crazy when they hear we went to Disney for our honeymoon. They usually ask why we’d choose Disney over an all-inclusive resort somewhere on the beach. But Disney can be such a romantic place! Yes, you’ll be much more active at Disney (there’s a ton of walking involved on a Disney trip) but there are also tons of ways to relax and unwind. And if you’re like my husband and I, Disney provides the entertainment aspect that we crave on vacations. I usually get bored of laying around at the beach after a day or two. Give me rides! Give me shows! Give me magic!

That all being said, I wanted to share 5 great ways to make a Disney World Trip more romantic.

5 Ways to Make a Disney World Trip More Romantic

1. Go to Tony’s and recreate the Lady and the Tramp spaghetti scene.

We did this on our honeymoon! And this was back before the days of Instagram, when people didn’t take a million silly pictures of themselves all day long. So I was really embarrassed to ask the waiter to take our picture. But I’m SO glad I did. It’s a wonderful memory.

2. Book a fireworks cruise.

I mean, what can be more romantic that sailing around in a boat watching fireworks? I always get chills watching the Disney fireworks. That Disney magic runs through my veins. Ha!

3. Splurge on one of the Deluxe hotels, even if it’s just for one night.

We still haven’t been able to stay at one of the Deluxe hotels, but it’s on my bucket list! We couldn’t afford it for our honeymoon, and when we take the kids, we’d rather stay at one of the more affordable hotels. But next time we’re able to go to Disney sans kids, we’re totally splurging!

For our honeymoon, we stayed at the Coronado Springs resorts. It’s one of Disney’s moderate resorts and it was beautiful! We really loved relaxing by the pool.

4. Make sure to factor in some down time during your planning.

This was key for our honeymoon trip. We had lots of mornings or afternoons where we’d just relax at the hotel or lay by the pool.

5. Wear matching shirts and ears.

You’re at Disney – this isn’t the time to be embarrassed about matching your significant other. This is the time to go all out! Purchase matching ears, grab a honeymoon or anniversary button, and wear matching shirts. It adds an extra element of fun to an already fantastic trip!

So if you’re looking to book a memorable trip with the one you love, look into going to Disney World. Because the most magical place on earth can also be the most romantic!

I’m a huge Disney World fan. Seriously. I think there’s pixie dust in my blood stream. After working in the theme park industry for years, it’s hard NOT to love Disney. It truly is a magical place! We even chose to honeymoon at Disney World. We spent 8 days and loved every minute of it!

Side note, you’d be surprised how many people look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them we did Disney World for our honeymoon. Some people love laying on a beach all day, and some people love riding roller coasters, watching shows, meeting characters, and immersing themselves in Disney magic. To each their own!

I really wanted to go back this year for our 10 year anniversary, but we ended up just taking a quick weekend trip to Asheville.  (We LOVED The Grove Park Inn!) We do have a trip to Disney planned for February with the kids, but Disney is a ton of fun without kids too. Maybe next year we’ll try again for an anniversary trip. If we are able to make that happen, I’m definitely getting us a couple of cute matching shirts to wear. (Luckily my husband is a good sport and loves Disney almost as much as I do!)

Here are a few of my favorite matching Disney shirts. They’re perfect for an anniversary trip, a Disney honeymoon, or just a couple that still loves each other as much as Mickey and Minnie!
