8 Week Appointment!

By on March 1, 2012

Here’s a post I wrote write before my 8 week appointment:

In about an hour and a half, Josh and I will be at my new obgyn doctors for my 8 week appointment. I’m so ridiculously excited and CRAZY nervous. I can’t wait to see the baby (I confirmed they’re doing an ultrasound!!!) even though I know it won’t look anything like a baby this early. 🙂 I hope we get to hear the heartbeat – who knows, it might be too early to hear it? Guess I’ll find out soon! I have so many questions, so many hopes and dreams running around my head. I haven’t been able to concentrate all morning!

But mostly, I’m just praying that everything is well with the baby. That he or she is healthy and growing

I don’t know what I’d do if we got bad news…but I’m trying not to think about that now…

I’ll update after the appointment. We’re also planning on telling my parents tonight if all goes well. And THAT will be exciting!!

The appointment went great!!!! There’s really a baby in there!! However, my new obgyn thinks the baby isn’t quite 8 weeks. Still pretty small. But we did see the little guy (he looks pretty alien!) and saw his heart beating (just looked like a little flicker). I forgot to look over at Josh during the ultra sound (like I said – I was really nervous during the whole appointment) and I’m kind of sad I didn’t see his reaction. I’ll have to make sure to look at him next time. This time I was too busy looking at the baby on the screen! We got a picture – the first pic of baby D! We had to drive over to the doctors separately since we were both coming straight from work and when we left the doctors, Josh asked, “Can I ride home with the picture?” SOOOO SWEET! He’s so excited about all of this. I love it!!

When we got home it was torture waiting for 5:30 when my parents were supposed to come over.

Oh – and a funny side note. I totally already have baby brain. I prepared ribs the night before to cook for my parents. I rubbed them with a dry rub and got them all set up in the crock pot. I was just going to take the crock pot out of the fridge in the AM and have them cooking all day and ready for dinner at 5:30. Well guess who forgot to take the ribs out of the fridge in the AM?!?! This pregnant lady right here. Argh. Luckily, my mom had some leftover roast she brought over for us to eat. I fail. 🙂

Anyway, my parent’s FINALLY got there. We were all standing around chatting in the kitchen. I was sooooo nervous about telling them. I couldn’t wait any longer. I asked them, “Hey – do y’all wanna see the new Toms I bought?” And I pulled out these to show them:

I let them look at them for a while (you could tell they were totally confused) and then I said, “Of course, I won’t be able to use them until September!” And that’s when it clicked. They were so excited!!!! We showed them the ultrasound pic and talked for a loooong time about the details of everything. They were amazed at all of the times I’d seen them since I found out and the fact that I was able to keep it a secret. 🙂 I told them how hard it had been lying to them (since they both knew we were trying and were always asking questions). But they didn’t care. They were so thrilled. One of the most fun moments EVER!!

Telling a Few More People

By on

So after telling Josh, the next people I wanted to tell were our parents. BUT, a few more people heard our secret before we were ready to tell our family.

On Monday the 23rd, I made an appointment with my doctor just to talk to her about how we’d been trying with no success. Then on Tuesday the 24th I found out I was pregnant. Figures right? It’s so crazy how things always seem to work out like that.

Anyway, I decided to keep the appointment, just so I could confirm what the home pregnancy tests were telling me and to see if my doctor had a recommendation for an obgyn. The appointment was for the 31st. (That was a LONG week to wait!)

When I got to the doctor, I told the nurse that we had finally gotten a positive pregnancy test. My heart was beating so far when I told her – she was only the second person to know! And boy, her reaction was disappointing. She just nodded. I was bummed. Then I realized she probably didn’t know we’d been trying. So I told her and THEN she said congratulations and asked me more questions. Yay! Then when my doctor came in (I’ve been seeing the same sweet doctor since I was 14) she asked me with a big smile on her face, “So, are you ready to do some celebrating? You ARE pregnant!” It was sooooo nice to be able to talk to someone other than Josh about the pregnancy. She asked me if I’d had an nausea (not yet) or food aversions (not yet) and we talked about due dates (September 16th according to her calculations!!!). It was so great sharing the news with someone, even if it was just my doctor. 🙂

A few nights later, it was raining so Josh and I decided to go walk around the mall to get some exercise. We stopped in Kohl’s to look around and found the CUTEST frame for your ultrasound picture that said “Now Showing.” Adorable, right?!?! We went to the check out counter and when the girl was ringing us up, she looked at me and said, “Are you expecting?” I was secretly hoping she’d ask and my mouth turned up into a HUGE smile and I blurted out “YES!” She asked how far along I was (7 weeks!!) and then told me about her little 10 month old boy. Josh and I walked out of the store beaming – how exciting to talk to people about OUR baby!!

How I told Josh he’s going to be a DADDY!

By on February 29, 2012

So as the earlier post explained, I found out for sure I was pregnant Tuesday morning. I’ve always had this plan of cooking baby back ribs, baby lima beans, baby corn, etc for Josh to tell him I was pregnant. (Cute right?) BUT…Josh had a work dinner Tuesday night. Uggg. I decided to play it by ear. I would wait to see how hard it was to keep the secret from him. If I could wait, I’d cook for him Wednesday night. If I couldn’t wait – I’d just tell him when he got home.

So I kept my mouth shut that morning. And allllllllllll day at work – longest day of my life!!! And then had to sit at home all evening by myself, waiting on Josh to get home. (PS – it’s felt SO weird to be at work that first day I knew I was pregnant. I’d be walking down the hallway in our office, thinking in my head, “Hi there Susan- guess what, I’m PREGNANT!” “Oh hey Bob, yep – I’m PREGGERS!” “What’s up Lara. Nothing much here…just that I’m PREGNANT!” Of course I didn’t dare say any of this out loud!) 🙂

Well…DUH – of course I decided not to wait. Plus the more I thought about it, I kind of wanted to video him when I told him so I could remember the moment forever. 🙂

So when he FINALLY got home, I told him I was tired and wanted to go to bed. We were laying there, playing on our phones (I know – it’s terrible we both do that right before bed) and I told him I wanted to take his pic -just joking/playing around like we do sometimes. But instead of having my phone set to take a pic, I set the phone to take a video. And instead of telling Josh to “Say cheese” I told him to “Say, ‘I’m going to be a daddy!'”

Y’all – his reaction was PRICELESS. Maybe the best moment of my life so far. Even more exciting than when I got engaged.

He was cheesing pretty hard at first (since he thought I was joking around taking his picture). But after he heard what I said, his smile dropped. His eyes got big and he said, “What?” I said, “I’m pregnant!” He sat up, and started to smile and you could tell he was getting really excited. He said, “Are you serious?!” And that’s when I cut off the camera cuz I was shaking and getting ridiculously excited too. 🙂

We hugged, cried, prayed and probably stayed up another hour just cuddling and talking and dreaming about our baby.

Such a sweet memory. One that I’ll cherish the rest of my life.

Dear Baby

By on February 28, 2012

Another post I wrote the day I found out I was pregnant. 🙂

1/24/2012

Dear Baby,

Today is the day I found out about you. I still can’t believe I’m pregnant!! I’ve been dreaming about this time in my life forever and now it’s here. Finally! I’m going to have a sweet little baby of my own to hold and cuddle and love. My mind’s been racing all day. Will you be a boy or a girl? Who will you look like? Will you love electronics and video games like Josh? Will you love cooking like me? Will you be creative? Will you be athletic? I know you’ll be smart. 🙂 I hope you don’t have ADD like me. I hope you aren’t as shy as both me and your daddy.

Your daddy. Wow – it’s so awesome to call him that. Josh is going to be a daddy. He’s going to be an amazing daddy. I was so scared we wouldn’t be able to have children. That he wouldn’t have a chance to be a daddy. Let me tell you, Baby D. You’re getting the best daddy in the world. Josh is so sweet, kind and honest. He’s playful and lots of fun. And he’s so good with kids. You really lucked out having him for a dad.

As for me, I hope I’m a great mom. I’m creative and fun and caring. But I have my faults. I guess every parent worries that they’ll scar their children. But I want you to know – I promise I’ll do my best. I promise to take care of you and to love you and to try to make sure you have everything you want in life.

I hope you laugh all the time. I hope you’re goofy. I hope you smile lots. I hope you learn.

I can’t wait to see you on an ultrasound. I can’t wait to hear your heartbeat. I can’t wait to feel you kick.

Right now, you’re just a second tiny pink line on a pregnancy test. But soon, you’ll be a little baby. MY little baby!!!

Love,
*Mom*
