2017 was a pretty good year for us. The kids are getting older and easier, we were able to take some fun trips, and we spent lots of time with family and friends. Overall it was a great year!
However, we did have some low moments. We lost two family members this year and the sorrow is still fresh for those who were closest to them. I know Christmas was especially hard for them, and I’ve been praying for peace for heavy hearts.
Maddie the daredevil had a couple of injuries this year as well. Each one gave me a few (hundred) new gray hairs!
I’ve also been missing some friends this year that have either moved away or moved on. Which is tough, since I’m finally at a point in motherhood where I’d be able to devote more time to those relationships.
But with the new year right around the corner, I’d love to focus on the good things from 2017. Here are my favorite things from 2017:
1. Our Disney World Trip
Our trip to Disney World back in February was probably my favorite trip this year. It was Maddie’s first visit, and Graham was finally old enough to really enjoy it. It certainly was magical seeing everything through their eyes and experiencing everything with them. I love Disney so much!
2. Blogging
I started blogging (again) in March of this year. (I dabbled with blogging before kids and a little bit after I had Graham.) But earlier this year I was just feeling so “blah” and searching for a creative outlet and something to focus on besides the kiddos. Blogging has been great for both of those reasons! I’ve also met some amazing people through blogging and have even made a little money blogging. (Which I still can’t wrap my head around! How amazing to get paid to do something I love doing so much!) I’m hoping to keep it going through next year, and I can’t wait to share lots of other fun adventures here on the blog.
3. Kid-Free Vacations
We were able to sneak away for a long weekend kid-free trip to Nashville in the spring and a quick 10 year anniversary trip in October to Asheville. We had so much fun sight-seeing, eating, and spending some quality time together without the kids.
4. The Beach
Our annual beach trip is always a highlight for me. I love the sun, sand, and surf. The older I get, the more I love going to the beach. And this year it was so much fun since the kids are a little older and weren’t quite as much work as in years past. I’m dying to go back to the beach – especially since we’ve been having so much cold and yucky weather here lately.
5. Christmas
I absolutely love Christmas. It’s my favorite holiday and I love the magic of the season. The kids were so much fun this year too and loved opening presents, decorating the tree, and participating in all our other fun traditions.
I can’t wait to see what the new year will bring!
