A few weekends ago, we decide to take a last minute weekend trip to Chattanooga. We’ve visited a few times in the past few years. It’s a short drive from Atlanta and a great place to spend a night or two when you’re wanting to get away. The city is also super kid-friendly! Here are a few of our favorite kid-friendly Chattanooga attractions.
Fun Things to Do in Chattanooga with Kids
Tennessee Aquarium
My husband and I both agree that we like the Tennessee Aquarium more than the aquarium in Atlanta. It never seems as crowded and the layout is better. My kids love watching the penguins, the turtles, and the otters!
Rock City
Rock City is located on top of Lookout Mountain and features lots of huge ancient rock formations, gardens, and beautiful views. At one point at the top of the trail, you can see 7 different states! They have lots of events throughout the year and offer kids activities as well. They also have a really cute area called “Fairyland Caverns” with fairy tale scenes inside a cave.
Chattanooga Lookouts
Last time we visited Chattanooga, we decided to go to see their minor league baseball team play. The stadium is right downtown and has a super laid-back atmosphere. My kids loved cheering on the team, watching the silly entertainment in between the innings, meeting the mascot – Louie the Lookout, and running the bases at the end of the game. The tickets are super affordable too!
Creative Discovery Museum
Chattanooga has an amazing children’s museum that’s great for all ages. I actually remember going here when I was younger and it’s still such a fun attraction for kids.
Ruby Falls
Ruby Falls is a beautiful waterfall located 1,120 feet below the surface of Lookout Mountain. It’s the largest and deepest underground waterfall in the nation that’s open to the public!
Tour (or Stay) at the Chattanooga Choo Choo
If you have a train-loving kiddo, you’ve got to take them to the Chattanooga Choo Choo hotel. You can stay overnight in an actual train car! The hotel is also a neat place to just walk around and explore.
Explore by the River and Visit Coolidge Park
Coolidge Park, located on the north shore waterfront, features a carousel, a splash pad, and a pavilion. My kids also love running around in the grassy areas near the river.
Wondering where to eat in Chattanooga? We love Tony’s Pasta Shop and Trattoria & The Blue Plate!
