The Breastfeeding Diaries

By on July 17, 2013

Julie over at The Girl in the Red Shoes is an awesome blogger with the cutest little boy that was born just 3 days after Graham. I love reading about her life and seeing her little guy grow. She has a series on her blog called “The Breastfeeding Diaries.” All the stories are great – very encouraging to new moms. Today, I’m guest posting about my breastfeeding experience on her blog. (My first guest post!) Hope you pop over there and check it out!

Graham is 8 months!

By on June 10, 2013

Baby Graham,

Here we are at 8 months! You are an absolute doll. You get cuter and cuter every day!

We’ve had a bit of a set back in the sleeping department, but in all you are still a very easy baby. I think our sleeping issues have to do with teething and separation anxiety. You’ve been working on your top two teeth this month and they really must be bothering you. Poor guy. I didn’t even know you were teething with your first two teeth, but the top ones must hurt more. You’ve been waking up 2-6 times a night crying. Luckily, all we have to do is go in your room and stick the pacifier in your mouth and you go back to sleep right away. Bedtime and naps are a different story. You WILL NOT NAP nowadays. I have to lay down with you in the bed and 30 minutes later you’ll FINALLY fall asleep. Usually I end up taking a nap too since I’m laying there so long. Daddy rocks you to sleep at night and it takes just as long. We miss the days when we just laid you down, kissed you goodnight and you put yourself to sleep. But I do love all the snuggling so I won’t complain too much.

Your biggest accomplishment this month – scooting! You can scoot backwards and around in a circle, but not forwards…and not towards whatever it is your trying to reach. Which can make for a very frustrated, fussy baby some days. We need to start baby-proofing the house because you’re never in the same spot if I set you down for a while and come back.

You also said a few more words this month – “shhh” and “tickle.” Tickle sounds more like “ter-ker” but it’s close enough! One time, you were holding your sock monkey toy and saying “Ter-ker, ter-ker, ter-ker.” You were tickling him! So cute.
You’ve been taking baths in the tub like a big boy. You love playing and splashing!
You’re still loving Lacey and Jack. You laugh and giggle at them all day. Lacey even lets you pet her and poke at her eyes. She loves you! You’ve also been barking a lot. (It sounds like a loud, high pitched quick scream.) Wonder who taught you how to do that?

You went to your first Braves game this month! (And they won!) You were pretty good for most of the game. We kept you out past your bedtime though and you let us know that that wasn’t a good idea…

Peepaw took you on his 4-wheeler for the first time. I’m sure you’ll give me a heart attack riding on this one day!

Graham, you are such a joy to me. I can’t wait to see what the next month brings!

Water Baby

By on June 2, 2013

Graham and I have been taking a mommy and baby water aerobics class once a week called H2Oh Baby! It’s through Oh Baby Fitness. Graham has been loving the water and I’m loving the exercise and the chance to get out of the house and talk to other young moms in my area.

My happy baby after class.

We also took Graham to my parent’s pool over Memorial Day weekend. It was pretty cold, so Graham didn’t enjoy it as much as he enjoys the water aerobics in the indoor heated pool.

Grandpa’s behind us walking away with a dirty diaper. That’s what Grandpas are for, right?

Looking cute in his hat and bathing suit!

Splashin!

Nap time by the pool! It’s a hard life.

Look at that face!

Baby Boy Blue

By on May 10, 2013

I don’t care if some would say this outfit is girly…my baby looks adorable!
It took me a LONG time to figure out “my style” of clothing. Awkward middle school years of biker shorts and t-shirts led to a short phase of gothic style clothes, complete with big black combat boots in high school. (Uggg so embarrassing to admit!) Then in college it was sorority t-shirts and whatever I could find to hide my freshman 15, my sophomore 10, my junior 5…man I gained some weight in college! When I graduated, I bought some nice corporate-y work clothes. You know what I’m talking about – black pants, blouses, button-downs, khakis….snore…boring!
When I ended up working in my company’s creative department, I started to be a little bit more adventurous with what I wore. That’s when I finally figured out what I liked to wear. Mostly dresses with fun prints – feminine yet funky. I’d just throw on a cute dress, a cardigan, grab my Coach purse and I was off to work! And man, I had some CUTE clothes! (Gotta loose the rest of this baby weight so I can fit into these pretty things again…)

Dressing a boy is hard. The girl section of the kids clothes stores is always bigger – and the stuff is way cuter. Boy clothes are all graphic t-shirts, animals and sports. Which are cute, but can get old fast. We were blessed with so many hand-me-downs from girls at my church that I haven’t had much of a chance to buy a lot of clothes for Graham. And really, when I have gone shopping, I haven’t found many things that I just have to have in the boy section.
I think Gap Kids, The Children’s Place, Old Navy and Mini Boden have super cute baby boy clothes. And as much as I appreciate the hand-me-downs (it saved us a ton of money) I’m excited about Graham growing out of his clothes so I can buy him some stuff that I’ve picked out. I’d like Graham to wear a mix of preppy, hipster and baby boy blue clothes.
Button-downs, skinny jeans and madras prints – here we come! 🙂

Graham is 7 months!

By on April 27, 2013
Graham,
You’re almost 8 months old. That just seems soooo old to me. You’re not my little newborn anymore!
This month your personality is really coming out – you are staring to love on us and talk a lot!
You can say “Dada”, “Mama” (yay!) and “Nana.” I think you’ve said “Hey” too. Not that you know what any of that means, but it sure is cute when you talk! And you’ve started waving. You’ll wave, then clap, wave, then clap. I love it!
Saying “Mama” —
(And growling a little bit there at the end. He learned that from Jack.) 🙂
Saying “Dada” —
It’s the cutest thing EVER when you give us kisses. You’ll reach out your arms towards my face and open your mouth. So sweet! You also headbutt us – we think that’s another way of you giving kisses.
You are way more aware of your surroundings. If you see something that you want – you fuss until you get it. I haven’t let you hold my phone yet because I know if I let you have it once, it’ll be yours from here on out!
Lots of firsts this month too!
First time on the top of Stone Mountain. (We rode the Skyride up – we didn’t brave the hike with you.)
First ride in your big boy stroller.
First time feeding yourself a bottle. Man, it’s going to be awesome
when we don’t have to feed you anymore. But I’m sure I’ll miss the snuggles…
You’re really interested in Lacey and Jack now. You love petting them!
Trying peas. You are NOT a fan.
You are sitting up like a rock star. And you can play by yourself for a pretty long time.
Still no signs of crawling, but I am just fine with that.
First trip to Dollywood. We spent a long weekend in Pigeon Forge.
You were awesome the entire trip. It was a blast!
Best. Photo. Ever!
My little hillbilly baby.

Happy 7 months baby Graham!
Now quit growing up so fast!
