This week may have been short, but it felt super long. So ready for the weekend!
I wanted to talk a little about skincare today. I’ve always struggled with acne and eczema, and I currently have both on my face. (Totally unfair!) I’m not sure how it’s possible to have dry, itchy, eczema right next to adult acne…my skin must be extra special. Ha!
I’ve used prescription acne medicine and prescription eczema medicine in the past, but nothing has truly cleared up my skin. Maybe I haven’t found the right dermatologist? Anyway, I wanted to share some of my favorite non-prescription skin care products that you can find in your local drugstore or online.
Five Skincare Favorites for Adult Acne, Sensitive Skin, and Anti-Aging
1. St. Ives Blackhead Clearing Green Tea Scrub
I’ve used the apricot version of this scrub off and on over the years, but I recently found the green tea version and it is AMAZING! It’s great for deep cleaning at night before bed. It washes off all of my makeup, and the green tea really helps with redness. It’s my favorite skin care product right now!
2. PurOrganica Retinol Serum
I’ve been searching high and low for a product that could help clear up some scaring I have on my face from the cystic acne I struggled with when I was breastfeeding. (Thanks a lot, breastfeeding hormones!) I have to be careful with retinol products because so many of them make my skin super red and irritated. But I’ve been using this one for a few weeks now and it’s great! I can already see some of the darker spots fading and it makes my skin look dewy and smooth.
3. Murad Clarifying Mask
Like everyone else who grew up in the 90’s and the early 2000’s, I used Proactive. It worked pretty well for me until I got pregnant and my hormones went crazy. My favorite Proactive product was the clarifying mask. When I stopped ordering Proactive, I wanted to find an alternative. I stumbled across the Murad brand, and I have to say it’s way better. Any time I have a rough breakout, I spot-treat it at night with the mask, and when I wake up, the spot has reduced in size and isn’t as red.
4. Citrix Vitamin C Antioxidant Pads
These aren’t part of my regular skin care routine right now, only because I’m still using one prescription acne product from my dermatologist. But before I started that prescription, I used these pads every day. They really improved the tone and texture of my skin. It’s like a mini facial each time you use one!
5. Tinkle Facial Shavers
When I was pregnant with my son, I started growing facial hair. Pregnancy is so glamorous right? Luckily, I have light blonde hair, but the peach fuzz was starting to annoy me. My makeup never went on smoothly and I was just tired of looking at it. I saw someone use one of these facial shavers on Facebook and I decided to try it out. They really work! They don’t irritate my sensitive skin at all and don’t cause ingrown hairs or additional acne. And the name always make me giggle.
What are your favorite skin care products? Do you have anything that clears up eczema? (Besides giving up gluten and diary, because I don’t have the willpower for that!)
