Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love dressing up, carving pumpkins, taking the kids trick-or-treating, and making fun Halloween-themed snacks and crafts.
However, I’m not a big fan of scary movies or haunted houses. I’m such a scaredy-cat! Although believe it or not, Josh and I saw The Ring on our first date back in 2002. Soooo creepy! (The movie, not our first date. Ha!)
Before we had kids, we’d always either dress up and go out bar-hopping, or host a small Scary-Movie-Night party at home with some friends. The past few years we’ve just had a couple of close friends over for a Halloween themed meal, and then headed out to trick-or-treat either in our neighborhood or at a local trunk-or-treat.
Here are a few pictures from Halloweens of the past:
Circa 2008. We look like babies!
2009. The one and only time I wore one of the “sexy” Halloween costumes. At the time, I thought I looked great. Now I’m rolling my eyes and wishing someone had told me to me put on a sweater…
A few pics from a party we hosted in 2011. (Excuse the quality of the photos. This was obviously before we had our good camera!)
2012 – Graham’s first Halloween!
2013 – The cutest little lion!
2014 – Maddie’s First Halloween!
A few pictures from 2015 when we had a blast at a local trunk-or-treat.
2016 – The first year when both kids picked out their own costumes. Graham was all about this spooky skeleton costume and Maddie wanted to be a “pink monster.”
Josh and I dressed up too last year. Ugly witch and Clark Kent!
We haven’t figured out what we’re all dressing up as this year. Gotta start brainstorming!
And, of course, my favorite Halloween tradition – our spooky Halloween Lasagna! We actually call it Lasagnaaaaaaah because it’s so scary it’ll make you SCREAM!!! I always use the Pioneer Woman’s lasagna recipe – it’s super tasty. Then we use grated Parmesan for the face, pepperoni and black olives for the eyes, and green olives for the teeth. My kids always get a kick out of the finished spooky face, and we all love digging into the lasagna!
These eyeball oreo truffles are also a perfect spooky dessert!
What are you planning on doing for Halloween? Do you have any Halloween traditions?
