A couple of weeks ago, we received a brochure in the mail advertising the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s new “living plant sculptures” exhibit – Imaginary Worlds. I knew the kids would love seeing the larger-than-life storybook characters and animals made out of plants, so we planned a trip to check it out. Graham was especially excited to see the exhibit and grabbed a map when we walked in so he could be our tour guide.

Graham was actually a little scared of the woolly mammoth. I thought he was cute!

I was jealous that Rip Van Winkle was able to take a nap.

The Earth Goddess is actually a permanent resident of the Atlanta Botanical Garden. She was first displayed at the garden back in 2013 during the first Imaginary Worlds exhibit, and the CEO and President of the Botanical Garden decided to keep her as a commemorative piece.

We had lunch at Longleaf, the full-service restaurant in the garden. We dined on the patio and had a great view of the Phonix.

Maddie loved the mermaid, of course!

The dragon was my personal favorite. (Just call me Daenerys Targaryen!) At 21 feet tall, he was impressive!

The dragon was guarding a sleeping princess. Maddie said it must be Aurora.

The sculptures start with metal frames that are covered with fabric and stuffed with soil.  Over 100,000 plants were used to create the sculptures for the exhibit, each one planted by hand. The rest of the garden was in full bloom and so beautiful!

We stopped by the Children’s Garden before heading home and Graham and Maddie each made a crown to take home.
