10 years! I still can’t believe we’ve been married that long.
Josh and I went back and forth about what we wanted to do for our anniversary. Years ago we decided we’d go back to Italy to celebrate, but with two young children, that was out of the question. We also talked about going to Disney World. (We’re both big Disney nerds and we honeymooned at Disney.) But Disney is best when you have at least 4 or 5 days to explore, and again, with the kids being so little, we knew childcare wouldn’t work out for us to be gone that long.
So we narrowed it down to places we could visit that were driving distance from our house. Asheville came up in conversation, and we both agreed it would be beautiful this time of year. I remembered reading about The Grove Park Inn a while ago in a Southern Living magazine, so I checked out the website. It looked gorgeous and after I saw pictures of the spa, I was sold!
We booked a two night stay, but I wish we’d been able to stay longer. The hotel was absolutely beautiful. From the huge fireplaces in the great hall, to the breathtaking views of the mountains from the restaurants and from our room, to the spa that was basically my personal version of paradise, everywhere we turned in the historic resort was another area of opulence.
Planning a romantic getaway or an anniversary trip? Here are 5 reasons to stay at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville.
1. The Views
You can’t beat the mountain views from The Grove Park Inn. Make sure to request a mountain view room and you’ll get to wake up to this:
The leaves were just starting to change during our trip, but I bet this weekend they’d be even more picturesque.
And of course, with amazing views come amazing sunsets. Look at that cotton candy sky!
A beautiful view for a busy blogger.
2. The Great Hall
The lobby of The Grove Park Inn is called the Great Hall. It’s flanked by two huge stone fireplaces and filled with tons of rocking chairs, lounge chairs, and other comfy seats for relaxation. There’s also a bar, so you can grab a glass of wine to enjoy while you’re warming up by the fire. Make sure to take a stroll around and read all of the inspiration quotes that are etched in the wood and stone all over the Great Hall.
3. The Sunset Terrace Restaurant
We dined at the Sunset Terrace the second evening, and it was an incredible experience. The view was lovely, the food was delicious, and the service was top-notch. It’s the perfect place to celebrate any occasion. Make sure to make a reservation, because the tables go fast.
4. The Romantic Atmosphere
It’s easy to feel romantic while you’re gazing out at a pink sunset over the mountains and sipping on champagne. We found a bottle of champagne in our room when we checked in, and at each meal we were presented with a special dessert and a red rose to celebrate our anniversary.
5. The Spa
The spa was my favorite part of the whole trip! So worth the splurge. Phones and cameras aren’t allowed inside of the spa, so you’ll have to check out the website for pictures. I had a manicure (complete with a rose, a mimosa, and a box of chocolates) and Josh was able to snag a basic day pass. After my nails were dry, we spent the rest of the morning swimming around in the mineral-based relaxation pool with underwater music, relaxing in the therapeutic waterfall pools, unwinding in the eucalyptus-infused steam room, and sipping tea in front of the cozy fireplaces in our comfy robes.
I went there a few years ago! It took a few hours to get there for me, but it really is a beautiful place with gorgeous views from the bedroom window.
SO beautiful!
